Fun fact: ET was actually enchanted with this during his stay on Earth. This is why none of his space diseases were spread around the globe, thus ending humankind. Thanks, MTG!

Why would his space diseases spread around the globe? He comes from another planet and the evolutionary difference between him and humans would be enormous. We can't be infected by many chimpanzee diseases so it would be incredibly unlikely we could be infected by the ET's. The difference is likely to be so big that they might not even be carbon based...
