The only thing this card has that earthquake doesn't is it won't kill you if you have low life, hits flyers and may pump some of your creatures if they live. Situational, but it has its uses.

considering many of red's cards have low toughness, i can't see this being a card used to kill creatures. its more like giving your first-strikers a boost and letting your attackers just deal more damage.

If it was instant it could have doubled up as a -X kill spell or a Bloodlust type of pump when you are attacking
With a high mana cost combined with sorcery speed it kills a lot of its usefulness

So yeah, seems both printings give it a lot of hate. Not gonna lie, it's really not good at either buffing OR killing...
