You could attack with this against a 2/2 creature, have the opponent declare that they are blocking with the 2/2, and then sacrifice this card in response to that (before damage is dealt). You wouldn't do any further combat damage (because your creature would be in the graveyard before damage resolves), but you'd at least kill the 2/2.
Unfortunately, you could do the same with just playing Shock. However, for goblin decks, it's still a pretty decent card, and it does have great art. Ember Hauler is a much better card. Same ability cost and same damage, and it costs one more {R} to cast, but it's a 2/2 and can be sacced at any time.
