The early sets are amazing because they show what the creators of Magic initially thought would be balanced, and now we realize just how wrong they were.

4 of these, 4 Black Knights, 4 White Knights, 4 Purelaces, 4 Deathlaces, you've got yourself the core of a winning deck, especially with how protection worked in those early days.

They weren't wrong. The game WAS balanced. When WoTC was sold to Hasbro, the lawyers stepped in, and you have the power-creep garbage of today.

Don't believe me? Look @ what they did to AD&D.
