Someone didn't think this drawback through very much. Not being able to block with your three-mana 3/6 is hardly a crippling problem when you're busy attacking with it.

Why would you be blocking with this card???This is a mirror of Mijae Djinn BTW...

A 3/6 for three mana is just great. Well, it's not as powerful as some modern power houses, but it is still a real bargain. And it's "drawback"? Who cares. With 6 toughness, you can keep attacking all day long without worrying much about it dying.

I would rather attack with this than with Mijae Djinn, a 3/6 is likely to kill most things in combat and live to tell about it. Don't see it is a 3/6 blocker for three but a 3/6 attacker for three, what an absolute bargain for mono red.

If you're blocking with this card, you're clearly playing the game wrong! A 3/6 for RRR that has no drawback when attacking is stupidly good. Red doesn't block - red kills stuff.

Yeah, a 3/6 creature for 3 mana is stupidly good, I can't believe Ydwen Efreet didn't see much more play back in the early days of Magic. Seriously, it's close to Juzam Djinn and Juggernaut in terms of power (they were two of the most powerful and popular creatures way back in M:tG's first days). Juzam Djinn was itself a sleeper, I remember when people looked at that card and went "hmm... I dunno, a 5/5 for 2BB, but it damages you every turn, and doesn't have trample or anything..." Then soon we all found out what a punisher the Juzam really was, and every black deck had a couple of them. It's amazing no one seemed to ever figure out about the Ydwen. I could tell how good it was, but never had a chance to obtain one.

For those asking why it didn't see much play: Pretty simple. Arabian Nights got such a small printing that not very many copies existed. (The same was true of Juzám Djinn, but that was written up a lot in a few key Magic periodicals, and was ultimately a lot more likely to settle the game on its own due to its higher power.)

i never understood why this card wasn't as highly rated as the juzam djinn or ernham djinn. the drawback is meaningless and the power/toughness to cmc ratio is insane. back then we were only getting 3/3 creatures for at least 4 mana. the best was sedge troll, 3/3 for 3 if you had a swamp out.
