Well, once upon a time Kird Ape into this into Char into Giant Solifuge was the most feared opening in Standard.

Turn 1: Play Seal of Fire or suspend Rift Bolt.
Turn 2: Target Seal of Fire or Rift Bolt to the opponent, play Scab-Clan Mauler.
Turn 3: Enchant Scab-Clan Mauler whit Moldervine Cloack and have fun.

Combo for this: turn one: forest/ mountain into Wild Cantor. Turn two: either dual land (such as Rootbound Crag) or opposite of the first land, attack with the Cantor. If it's blocked, sack for a burn spell. If not, cast just cast the mauler. Gruul doesn't care for defense too much, and you have a good trampler on turn two!

Not a bad common. I like how threshold abilities such as triggered landfall, bloodthirst, and metalcraft allow you to cast several powered up spells in the same turn off of the trigger.

For instance, you could have some extra mana open, and drop two of these with bloodthirst triggered and get two 3/3s for 4 mana.

I like dropping lands for 4 turns and then casting 2 Searing Blaze for 3 damage each on the fourth turn. It's a bit of fun, and I'm surprised more players don't make plays like that. It's not as if you need a trigger for each spell.

I might play this guy in Zoo.

In Ravnica constructed, you could use Seal of Fire for a guaranteed bloodthirst activation.

See Also: Watchwolf. Both are (effectively) 3/3s for 2, but this guy is more situational and has Trample. Generally speaking, the Wolf is more reliable and generally better, but it's not red, which could be a pretty big consideration in the era of cards like Char and Kird Ape.

If you chose to go G/W/R, however, you'd get both, along with the allmighty Lightning Helix. And that's Zoo in a nutshell, give or take a few years of nutty aggro creatures and burn spells to make it a top-tier deck

Pity this one wasn't reprinted in M12, which features Bloodthirst.
But i guess being multicolored didn't help him find its way in a Core Set.
Wizard keep those gold-card free: not a single one was printed so far.

I get feelings of nostalgia, but the fact is Stormblood Berserker is almost always better now that it's stolen these poor guys' glory. It's easier to cast, and in place of trample (which was more often than not less than terribly relevant) has a very tricky and useful form of evasion.
