Funniest alter I've ever seen on a card was on Eye for an Eye:

Gerrard: Where the heck is Starke?!

White direct damage. 'nuff said. I play this in a R/W deck running Furnace of Rath and the other white direct damage spells that were considered bad and unplayable, such as Fire and Brimstone. Eye for an Eye is just cruel with the Furnace out. 5/5

This hasn't lost any functionality because of the 6th edition. They burn you, you play this, this resolves, the burn resolves and both players are dealt the same amount of damage simultaneously.

An interesting card, due to 6th Edition rules, this card lost its original functionality, in the olden days this could be used to cause a draw, i.e. you kill me, I kill you, it can't do that anymore...

This is not what I would define a white effect... You don't see an effect like this very often in white.
