I like to think of haunt as a backup for repeatedly recurring it (whether through blink or standard graveyard recursion) that way if something goes wrong with the plan you get the effect just one more time. It's a frickin crime they never did future sight haunt stuff though...

As a mechanic, haunt is a failure. It's not intuitive and it's fairly complex. It also messes up graveyard interaction.
But it did produce some very good cards, like this.
