Strictly better than Barren Glory because it's a state-based trigger instead of an upkeep step trigger.

How about getting academy rector out then casting kaervek's spite. With dark ritual, Lotus petal this can all be done early as turn 2.

Obliterate or perhaps a Decree of Annihilation? As long as you don't have any other enchantments out. :D

@Alpha-Black: A great combo, besides for the fact that it requires 11 cards over the course of 4 turns...probs a much easier way...of course, you could instead give all creatures all creature types (forget the card that does that) so everything becomes a myr and a sliver, then use 2 Galvanizers and Palladium to make infinite mana/untap, then use Screaching Sliver to mill your opponent to death...one of the only milling combos out there other than Painter's Servant/Grindstone, and milling them to death is so much better than death by damage
