If this was basic, it would make commander a much more interesting format.
Not to say that commander isn't already scintillating, because it most certainly is.

One reason why this is in the middle of nowhere is possibly because this is the commanders home field. They could be from Dominaria when the world was covered in snow like in Coldsnap. Maybe this is the home of Zur the Enchanter?

Eh, maybe not. It's not like he's an infamously powerful EDH general.
