Since Righteousness gives a creature +7/+7, the creature with the boost will probably kill the attacking creature. This card need one of your creature's to block so that it will work, but the good thing is that the creature you use to block won't die as(unlikely) using Righteousness might. Both are equally powerful. But why is this a common?

Evasion, indestructible creatures, when you have no creatures on the field, or when you want to get rid of something nobody would ever attack with like Elvish Piper. Those are a few reasons people rate Oust so high.

Cool card, cheap removal that has an extra requirement. I like Feast of Blood in my vampire deck and I'm gonna like this card in my soldier deck. Not sure why this is rated higher then the Stronghold version though. Seems like it would have been better with the older cards.

I use this in a deck with Goldenglow Moth. It pwns. Oh, you have a 10/10. Well, I'm gonna destroy it, AND gain 4 life. and do the same next turn. Love it! 4.5/5

@Sironos: I'm not sure that this moves into black's territory at all. White has always had pretty good removal, although with a few exceptions (i.e. Swords to Plowshares and later Path to Exile, most had the attacking creature restriction. For instance, for 4 CMC Chastise destroyed an attacking creature and gave you life. Condemn is a closer fit to Smite because of the CMC, but with obvious differences. If anything, Smite is less good against Black because of graveyard recursion. My point is, which I hope Condemn and Swords to Plowshares showed, is that white's had cheap removal effects for some time, although some do different things. This doesn't bust into another color as much as Oust does.

Honestly, I prefer Righteousness over this because I can yell, "RIGHTEOUSNESS!" when I block...

But then again... smite is like a KICK IN THE FACE.
