Combos nicely with gratuitous violence for 10 damage to player and 20 to a creature they control, and that's without beefing his power. Then all he needs is life link: one Batterskull later and you've gained 54 life with a mono-red deck.

I have a foil one of these which my wife uses in her dragon deck, along with a foil two-headed dragon and a predatory dragon, plus others. Good card.
