I think Wizard's hesitancy to make abilities like this good again is hilarious. At the end of the day, this guy costs four for a 1/2. Not good enough. Certainly no Tinker, thank Christ.

Hey, Im kinda of new in this game and I find this card really great (With a low mana cost to play it) but as I was playing with some friends it occured to me.

Can someone use a counterspell on the card I'm going to put in play? Because I'm not really sure if that could happen, if so, can some one help me with this?

If the card can't be countered, it would make this card, a rather, outstanding creature for any Artifact Deck.

@AgesOfThunder But couldn't you just activate her ability to have her save herself and make your Terminate fail?

I find it sad that this card has become the symbol of the artifact deck in this block. Granted its amazing, but in truth I like finding more creative ways of destroying things... At least they didn't re-release goblin welder or I would loose all faith in this game.

I loves me this one. I could never wrap my head around Esperzoa since it infallably makes me pick up cards that I desperately need on the table, this one however is the optimal cheat as far as infinite combos and big artifact creatures go.

I've managed to get a hold of half a playset of these and I'll be sure to get me the other two soon enough. Pity that this card is so expensive...

I believe this card is sick and wrong. although strangely ive seen a lot of people elvish piper shes a combo engine just purring to be broken wide open.

Counterspell will only effect an opponent's SPELL (IE: a card that is coming into play). Master Transmuter, however, is using an ACTIVATED ABILITY (an effect caused by a permanant already in play) so Counterspell (or any card that targets a spell, like Countersquall for example) doesn't work.

Even better: Since Master Transmuter's ability requires Mana to work, it is considered a 'Mana Ability', which means that cards like Azorius Guildmage, Voidmage Husher, Voidslime, etc all the rest WON'T counter it either!

I have a WUB Esper flying deck and this card ROCKS!!!! There are (as the art sugest's in the shape of the two round objects) INFINITE combo's!

lol, she really looks like a friend of mine.
although it has some combo potential a tinker would be better for various reasons:

1- this is a creature, and it probably won't survive one turn with all the removal and affinity hate in extended, which is the best format for artifact decks imo (i don't like legacy).

2- it has a converted mana cost of 4, meaning you'll probably be dead or pretty close to dead when you play it an trigger it's ability (personal experience).

3- it will just get a path once you trigger it, unless you return it to you hand instead of picking another artifact, in which case they'll just break the artifact you just put into play.

4- ancient grudge and kataki in every sideboard i see... :(

5- there was actually a deck playing with this, but it never went very far and i don't think it won any major tounaments.

although it's pretty good for amateur decks. you should check the power nine if you want to see broken, they'll let you win at the 1st turn... (see all)

Gatherer works better in the Companion app!
