Admittedly, he's a bit expensive (Plated Slagwurm has the same P/T for 1 CMC less, and your opponents can't target him), but if you can build your deck to deal with the cost he's likely going to be worth it. I can already see him in a Blue/Green deck alongside Nacatl War-Pride.

If {8} bothers you that much, you can always throw a few Heartstones in to lower his ability's cost.

I used this card in a group setting of 4 players. After getting beat up for awhile and losing my first Lorthos almost right away, I managed to get out a second one in mid- to -late-game. Then my luck turned.

Pretty much as soon as you can start attacking, your opponents' days are numbered. I was playing an all-Blue deck so I kept a Negate handy. Against a Blue/Red, Black, and White deck this pretty much shut everyone down (although they had already been weakened some).

Tapping lands and big creatures was about the most useful thing here, and with a Whispersilk Cloak or Quietus Spike you could kill off opponents even faster.

4/5

All I gotta say is AWESOME!!! I was able to close out a multiplayer game against a wicked Level-Up deck and a vicious mill deck all thanks to this card with help from Quest for Ula's Temple and some other big nasties. FEAR MY SEA MONSTERS!!!

Donovan_Fabian: Progenitus can be countered. he has protection and he shuffles, but thats it. protection dose not come into effect until he is a creature, and there is a reason it states 'target spell' or even 'target creature spell' and not 'target creature'. counters don't target the permanent and so pro blue can still be counterspelled.

Emrakul, the aeons torn on the other hand, boasts that he can't be countered in addition to pro colored spells.

Cool card...it's not mythic worthy (again) but it's still cool.

I doubt i'd ever play it. Did I mention that it's cool?

Not worth 8 mana, but a funny card nonetheless.

I'm sorry but anyone who likes tis creature is a noob. In a competitive setting it will never see play. In two turns and 16 mana you get to tap all of the other players permanents? WTF? That's the stupidest thing I've ever seen. With 16 mana and two turns you could do an insurmountable amount of things that are better than this mana intensive crap. You spend 8 mana to put him on the board and someone spends 2 mana to destroy him with terminate. That is what will happen 99.9 percent of the time. Or better yet, they could spend one mana and destroy him with a path to exile.

I really don't like this guy. He's great flavorwise and all, but in the game of Magic, the only time flavor is a factor is when you're playing at home, not in competitive ranked play. Mythics should be something that when dropped, should inspire panic and be hard to get rid of. Take Baneslayer Angel, Rafiq of the Many, and the Maelstrom Angel for example. All of those Mythics can ruin your opponent's day, and require nothing more than attacking to do it. Lorthos requires you to not spend mana on your next turn if you wanna play his ability. That, to me, is terrible, when your beefy creature loses it's worth because you might want to play a spell here and there, that, and he's practically useless if you manage to get him out any turn prior to 8. Also, by the time Lorthos can come out, if you make it that far, you're likely well aware of how the game will end up, with your loss or your win. Lorthos only screams "More win!" or "Last gasp!" He won't turn the tide of the game, most especial... (see all)
