Withengar isn't practical by any stretch of the word, but he's one of my favorite legends of all time. Plus, he's technically colorless, which makes him all the more hilarious.

To the EDH players: He can go into any color deck! He has no black MANA SYMBOLS to give him black color identity. Withengar is a black creature, but for color identity it is colorless. Have fun ;D

I don't think this cards colour identity is black.
You draw the artifact, you play the artifact, its an artifact when its not in play, and that artifacts colour indicator is colourless.
In short, a secondary colour indicator does NOT override the primary.

I'd love to use this as a commander, but although I can't, his second ability does seem to work well in a multiplayer EDH game.
