One of only two creatures left in old MAGIC cards that compares well to Post-Mythic Rarity Creatures.
"Little Bigs" Baneslayer Angel, Titans Wurmcoil Engine
"Big Bigs" Griselbrand, Avacyn, Angel of Hope, Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
"Combo Kills" Progenitus, Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, Blightsteel Colossus
These dozen-odd creatures just about obsolete most other creatures for the purposes of 'High End Finisher'. Color Restrictions Not Applying, if you're looking for a Giant Stick, these are probably what you're looking at. If you're looking for something else, you're setting yourself Color Restrictions or trying to win more Fast and Consistent than these because you don't have the combo pieces or are restricting yourself from combo to do something more interesting/fun, if slow, ineffecient, and less eff... "BTW, Karn Liberated's ultimate works with her since she never "enters the battlefield" in that case. "
@Paleopaladin: That is flat out wrong. All of the cards exiled with Karn are put into play at the beginning of the game and any triggered abilities will go on the stack at the beginning of the first upkeep.

Let's say you have Platinum Angel out and play Phage from your graveyard only to have Platinum Angel destroyed three turns later. Would you still lost the game, or does Phage's first ability only apply as she comes into the game?

I like to think that Phage's casting cost includes mana dedicated to stopping her from killing you accidentally upon summoning. So if you get her into play some other way, *glerk*.

Hey, uh, guys. You know how you're saying she'd be an epic general?
Don't you play Generals from the exile zone? :(

This+Torpor Orb=She will never stay dead. Toss in a Whispersilk Cloak and she's everyone's worst nightmare.

Opponent: I use Karn's +4 ability on you, discard a card.

I find it really funny that this creature is now considered a "Zombie Minion." Rooftop Storm = Hilarity! You still cast Phage, just at 0 mana.

I have to say, she is by far and long, my favorite Magic card. I really think people don't give this card enough credit. While its true that she can, in many many ways, be the one that kills YOU and not your opponent, she EMBODIES Black Magic. She fits, whole and true, the 'kill or be killed' concept of Black. The 'win at ANY cost' that used to be so prominent in Black cards. She also instills a sort of nervouseness in players if they don't have that immediate answer, and must sacrifice all they have built to keep her away until they can be rid of her.
Functionally, the card is, as many have noted, very difficult to use. But its exactly why she is so much fun to play. Experienced players bash her with unrelenting malice, calling her a 'noob card'. Any card that can give you a potential auto win deserves such a major drawback. Its BLACK.
Phage has always had a great effect on games in my playgroup. We are not, by any means, pros. We play casual, and we often play EDH. And its so... (see all)
