In taxonomy, a creature never stops being what its ancestors were. So, if we take the word "monkey" to mean "creatures of the order Simiiformes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simiiformes)", then great apes, including humans, can be called "monkeys" (as well as reptiles, fish, etc).
