Can this be used as a counterspell? The current Split Second definition seems to allow it, saying "players can't play spells" as long as it's on the stack. And that would mean the spell would stay in the hand zone, yes?

@Quang: It doesn't need to be a creature; it just has to be non-basic land card.
This card is a great main, if not sideboard, card. Shatters combos like no other.

It's true, It causes players to become highlander and singleton oriented in Extended ad Legacy or justs pushes players to stay in the Type II arena Only. I'm more interested in how to sidestep the card if possible.
