i'm not sure the sphinx of jwar isle blows this out of the water. the sphinx has shroud, which is a neutral ability, and lets you look at top card of library, but has 1 less toughness. still good.

Mahamoti Djinn hasn't gotten any better. Thanks to the enormous support for dragons, angels, and demons in this game, we now have removal that nobody really suspects: Plummet. Honestly, this guy was an oldschool beatstick, but the format is just too full of ready removal.
I hate to be the guy who says "Dies to doom blade," but a creature has to be able to do more than absorb 6 damage than to be a playable flier in my book. I'm much more willing to run creatures like Steel Hellkite because he's not handicapped. He's handicapable. He earns the slough of removal that can kick his shiny metal @$$.
Edit: I've changed my mind about this card. It's not perfect, but at least it still compares with cards like Consecrated Sphinx, which thankfully has a lower power than this, otherwise it would be *completely* outmoded.

It's not quite strong enough by today's standards to *really* be what you'd want as your pack rare- but I think there'd be a lot of people WoTC could make happy if they made a 'strictly better' updated guy in some Core Set of the Future:

I think the coolest thing would be if the new art depicted the same creature or being, but doing something different or seen from a different angle. Then we'd have a fresh feel while keeping the familiarity. I mean, we know already what a Mahamoti Djinn actually looks like from the previous artwork. Maybe we could just have the same guy, but show him actually floating over a bunch of gamblers or something similar.
