I like the flavor text. However, i think i will still be sticking with Sage Owl.

Very similar to Preordain. Hits 3 cards instead of 2 and doesn't technically "draw" (which can be important). Not as much choice as scrying though. Is the extra {1} worth it? Probably not, but if you're playing modern you don't get the choice.

The charmingly mystical and evocative artwork, good flavor text, and absence of keywords make this a great beginner card in a way that Preordain can't be. Lorwyn's Ponder would've been a nice choice except for the fact that it involves shuffling (and they'll feel obligated to if they don't like their options), which people new to card games tend to find difficult and tiresome.

I think it would be interesting to see a sorcery version of this card for the cost of U. It would probably be considered by most to be better than Preordain (for digging 3 deep), but not necessarily better than Ponder (for Ponder's shuffle). Unfortunately, it would still be banned in modern before it even gets released...
