Morality Shift early in the game would definitely get the job done.
Even without that, it could make the opponent hesitant to attack you. Killing your blockers will allow them to do damage to you, but every meat shield they kill is bringing you closer to victory. Basically, load up on low-cost creatures and block whatever they throw at you.

This was my first rare. I was a bit of a gamer (then and now) and quite obviously got hooked. I have never used it once in 4 years (even though all my EDH decks are black multicolored) but I still LOL whenever I see it in my trade binder. On the page after the Vengevine and before the Koth of the Hammer.

You can always Traumatize or otherwise mill yourself, if you want to take a risk, or the dredge cards from the Golgari could help.

"Only the Cabal could win." is likely referencing Kabal, who was by far the highest tier character in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Even wizards knows Kabal's a badass.
Or it could, just maybe, be referencing the group of corrupted clerics that are pictured in the art.\, just a thought.
