Based on the flavor tip-off and the typo on Walking Atlas, I'd say that Eldrazi aren't artifacts but are colorless. Protection from colors is looking pretty intimidated right now.

I wonder why this card didn't get reprinted even though it was featured on Zendikar in the storyline. I mean, Chandra used it to beat down Sarkhan and accidentally set off a chain of events that released the Eldrazi. I would think that it's an important card to reprint. Maybe wotc thought Staggershock would be better gameplay-wise... and maybe they're right... but still!! >_>

This card is very narrow, and shouldn't really be used in any constructed deck. In modern, we have access to Lightning Bolt, and this costs 2 more. It even costs 1 more than Searing Spear.
The protection from red won't come up all that often in practice, as most decks out there don't run protection from red in the main deck, and since mono red is not a strong deck in many formats, protection from red is often not even worth a sideboard slot, so a card that gets past protection red is not even needed these days.
Of course, when the narrow application comes up, the card can be very good, which is often what narrow cards are like. It's good a small % of the time, and it's bad every other time. Unfortunately, this is one of those cards.
