Great closer for RDW. Sure, it could get countered, but is there a more "red" way to win than this?

Last-Ditch Effort followed by this is how goblins finish the game! With no cards on the table.

Maybe this in a red storm deck? Fireblast is better though.

@DarthParallax - you are wrong and you don't know what "strictly better" means. This card is similar to Fireblast but they are different. If your opponent has 5 life left, Fireblast would fall short whereas this card would win.

I wouldn't put more than 2 in a deck. Chandra, the Firebrand on T4 and this on T5 copied would be amazing :)

@retrovirus61: While it's true that it does have that potential, it's not actually likely that that would happen. The odds of getting a 4x4 (4 lands on turn 4) in a deck that plays 20 or fewer (most RDW builds) is pretty low, much less a 5x5. And if you get a 5x5 in a burn deck like that, then it's probably not working how it was supposed to.

Also, as aznxknightz mentioned, it was competing for a spot with Fireblast, which was the better card by a large margin.

I think this is being overlooked as a decent finisher for a RUW control build, where you're likely to get up to 7+ lands anyway (many of them duals with the mountain subtype), and you generally have trouble dealing large chunks of damage on the cheap. Make sure to float some mana for counterspells, though!

Fireblast is two mountains for four damage, this is X mountains plus one red for X damage. It's similar to the Lightning Bolt/Blaze comparison in that one trades raw power at one level for versatility at all levels, but the sorts of decks that use these effects tend not to get above four land that often anyway.
