If you have six mana for a card that does nothing when it hits the board, why exactly do you need creature cost reduction in the first place? Most decks will find this useless.

If you play against scrupulous math/philosophy majors, "Pay up to 2 less than required" can net you a free Blightsteel Colossus.

"I'm required to pay 12, but Planar Gate says I may pay 2 less than required, which means I'm required to pay 10. But Planar Gate says I may pay 2 less than required, so I'm only required to pay 8..."
