One of the best things about this card is its ability doesn't cause it to tap, which makes it great to have out if you're playing against other black decks.

Mostly outclassed by Thrull Parasite now. While you can only use white or black mana to extort for the Parasite and any color of mana for this, the Parasite can extort on non-black spells, meaning its usually better in a multicolor deck anyway. Plus, the Parasite gains you 1 life as well-and, if you're playing multiplaye, it becomes even more efficient. The Parasite also has a decent other effect. With that in mind, there isn't much reason to use this now.

1/1 FOR 1 IS FREAKING TRASH.
PAYING 1 EXTRA MANA WHEN YOU CAST A SPELL IS TRASH, EVEN MORE SO WHEN THE REWARD IS A PATHETIC 1 LIFE.
THIS CARD IS TRASH PEOPLE, TRASH. STOP OVERVALUING TRASHPILES.
