Why is this card considered such a poor rare? At the very least it would disrupt your opponent's spot removal.

Having a just a single of these + Indestuctibility and Platinum Angel will not guarantee a win, however, two of these will :P

@ Bauble : Indestructible will keep you safe from everything that has destroy mentioned in the card used by your opponents.
It's not a bad card.
And I agree with Exterion
If you have 2 of these on the table and 2 copies of Privileged Position and can manage to trigger Elspeth's last ability (it can be done pretty fast provided you will be forced to play a green-white-blue deck and will have to make use of Gilder Bairn) you are pretty much set. And since you will be playing with green as well you will pretty much have the fastest mana-generator in game. Add Fastbond and painlands to speed up things rediculously up and things you want are sure to be on the table sooner then later.
To add icing to the cake you can put Worship in as well.
Put your tactical nukes in position (Wrath of God, Armageddon) and fire away when you are sure nothing bad can happen anymore. Don't forget to play Platinum Angel as well (she plays a crucial role). It wil prevent you from losing when your opponent ... (see all)

@Everyone who thinks that 2 of these + Indestructibility + Platinum Angel = guaranteed win,
It isn't a guaranteed win. Any mass removal spell would solve the combo. E.g: Scourglass or Planar Cleansing for the enchantments and Path To Exile, Qasali Pridemage, Unsummon, or any removal spell for the Angel.
So that combo stalls time, and only gives you time to pull out something big. It does not give you a definite win.

they would give each other shroud. and "path to Exile", "Qasali Pridemage", and "Unsummon" all target creatures and artifacts/enchantments. And I'm displeased to be the one to bring this to your attention, but shroud offers protection from any spell or ability that may target the "shrouded" permanent in question. So, yes, 2 Greater Auramancies and a Priveleged Position on the field leaves way for a Platinum Angel to enjoy an extended stay on your battlefield. But it's beyond this point that always starts two sided arguments about whether spells like Scourgl@ss are targeting nonland permanents, and therefore ineffective against shroud, or do A.O.E. spells and abilities circumvent this... X2 this, Enchanted Evening, Tranquil Grove. Two Green and one colorless now wipes all other permanents off the board.
