This + Knight of New Alara + Blessing of Nephilim + Psychotic Fury = 18/18 double striker on turn 6.
Add a rancor, and its a 20/18 double strike trampler. Game over.
Playing an 8/8 for 5 is never something your opponents enjoy. With just 1 of the cards I mentioned it becomes a nightmare.
Sure there are more impressive creatures with abilities etc, but don't underestimate a big creature. Theres only a thousand different ways to make something unblockable/fly/trample/etc.

Combo this with Composite Golem.

This card adds a fun element to limited play. An uncommon 5 mana 8/8 is nothing to sneeze at, even though there are better five-color creatures. Fusion elemental is unique, and while constructed will forget it, it will find a home somewhere. I have one in my five-color elder dragon highlander deck.

I just think a five color deck has better things to do with its mana!

It's great dropping this with Maelstrom Archangel. Or Dramatic Entrance. The only creature I prefer to drop early in my five-color deck more than this guy is my Progenitus.

Am I the only one who thinks this art is not fitting at all for 5 colors? It looks plain Red/Black.

Yeah, great for a WUBRG deck.

An 8/8, hmm... That's funny. It's exactly big enough to get killed by a 1/1 with Righteousness. My opponent's face when that happened was priceless.

@Mode: your comment is literally how I remember the order of colours when they're being written out.
