Had 6 of them in a drafted deck, and made first place with this deck, even playing against some people which were far more experienced than me. One Mechanist allowed me to draw the next, or some other artifact. If there was no artifact in range of this guys ability (which rarely happened), I could still put some lands on the bottom of my deck, which is great as well since it increases my chances to draw something useful
Aven Fisher was always ok in drafts. Not great, but ok. This guy, in the right deck of course, draws you the card when it comes into play, not when it dies, which is even better than the fisher. It triggers Sludge Striders abilities, and loves getting bounced by Esperzoa or Master Transmuter. Also it's a common, so you can pick up tons of them, and the more you have, the better they become. An artifact-based Impulse attached to not just a body, but a 2/2 flier. Helpful artifact helper, and pumps Master of Etherium while fetching one up in one stroke. Definately a Block card.

i have this guy in my deck. i use him because he allows me to search the top three cards and put an artifact card into my hand. Even though I have Sphinx Summoner to search for an artifact creature card, Faerie Mechaninst helps search for Scourglass.

it needs to be in an artifact deck , but thats what it was meant for. if it is it now reads
2/2 flyer when it comes into play pick up a card.
also in an artifact deck its out by turn three
