It's because people see him as vulnerable 3 card draw. Far as I'm considered though, whether he's better or worse can really depend on the game and what you have to combo with him

He is just a great draw engine that is good in almost any blue deck. He has the lowest casting cost and can go up to 5 loyalty right away. Then you double draw for 5 turns, and leave you counter mana open! If he is attacked for say 3 the next turn you can still pull out another card or 2. 3 Mana for a cycle effect at worst! Awesome synergy with Liliana making their weak +1s into a great advantage. 4/5 as I don't like his ultimate it should have been a time twister or time walk.

I don't see planeswalkers as being played for their last ability. In my opinion, your lucky if your opponent doesn't draw something that can discard/destroy, or simply attack your planeswalker. It is definetly possible to use that last powerful ability, but if you want to play one its best to focus on the first things they do and decide whether thats worth it to you, and if they get enough loyalty points for that big ability then even better. For me, this is why I use jace, hes a re-usable card draw for 3, which is no different than playing a sorcery. You can use his 2 first powers in cycles to draw lots of cards without giving more to your opponent as well. He works better for me personally maybe because I also play cards that cause my opponent to discard from their hand, so they might be discarding the same things I just allowed them to draw. Occassionally I can keep jace out long enough to play his last ability, at which point my opponent has just lost a 1/3rd of their decks p... (see all)

Jace Beleren is my favorite planeswalker of all. I recently build a mill deck and its was great even though he wast in it. One day looking at my cards I saw Jace... i looked at him and thought '' Why didnt i realized how good were is ablilities before... Is he perfect for my deck". So i bought a few things that will let me search for him instead of having four Jace Belelrens in my deck. And let me say that my Deck is Far more stronger and deadly than ever before.

this killing machine keeps cards in my hand and is one card less that i have to worry about in my opponents deck, and as a matter of fact the way my deck its being build around him He rarely takes damage and hes ultimatum goes out almost every time he is in play. Not to create any enemies, but I like the color Blue a lot and i believe that the blue its getting better and stronger. oh and by the way i like the card Sleep a lot.

Blue is not dead first of all. Blue is all about manipulation, control, knowlegde, take contro... (see all)

Jace Beleren is a very good card. It is the cheapest planeswalker to get out at only 3 mana. It is harder to kill than other planewalkers because of its plus 2 ability. It is great for decking your opponent since they have to draw an extra card per turn with the possibility of losing twenty cards which is basically game once it happens. Use this card along with hedron crab, memory erosion, tome scour,Wall of Denial and cards that cancel spells, destroy attacking monsters/exile monsters and you have a deck that is almost impossible to kill before your opponent runs out of cards.

For the longest time I was vaguely irritated that this was the main blue plains-walker. Put simply, I don't like his plus ability, but to get anywhere with him you must use it. Most of my strategies are all about disarming your opponent and preventing him from getting anything. This dose exactly the opposite.

More recently though, I have changed my mind. If used as a drawing engine, he is much more powerful, and easy to see from a practical stand point. Also, he allows for some flexibility and combo potential. Put simply, he makes a better ally than a weapon.

His minus ability when paired with his plus ability allows you to draw an extra card every turn. For a player who doesn't mind sharing this benefit on every third turn, this isn't bad.

His ultimate ability seems like it could end a game, but that seems not to be his primary function, unlike some other plainswalkers. The only disadvantage to him is that he may arm your opponent. I disapprove of this personally, but I can still... (see all)
