I have played this card in a RDW deck.
Turn 1 - land, Goblin Guide Damage 2+
Turn 2 - land, Kiln Fiend, Attack Goblin Guide
Turn 3 - land, Ligting Bolt in opponent creature, in main phase Assualt Strobe then Kiln Fiend get 3+, attack with Kiln Fiend, now it is 7/2 with double strike, 14 damage.
Turn 4 - Goblin or Kien with an another instant, sorcery with burn.
Game Over.

It acts basically as a huge burn spell, with conditions such as:
- you need a creature in play without summoning sickness that is worth casting this on
- your opponent doesn't have any blockers
- your opponent doesn'T have any removal
Sure, with infect creatures or EDH/Commander generals, th is can result in a rather quick match. But often this also ends up as a useless card in your hand, or even card advantage for your opponent. "I strobe my fat creatures. And, oh, you killed it... hm... I use my other assault on my other creature and attack. You block? Oh... I guess I just lost four cards".
2/5

Is it better than Double cleave?

I really don't like this card... I drafted two because I thought it was an instant, I tried to play them as instants two or three times but my opponent's kept catching me...
At sorcery speed it just mandates a chump block, and you can't use it on defense. It's really only good if you know that the creature is going to make it through, because you've nuked their blockers or your critter has some kind of evasion. Not NEARLY as good as Berserk or Double Cleave and really I'd rather have a Giant Growth most of the time. This isn't a "combat trick"; your opponent sees it coming and you can't bluff with it.

Funny in EDH with any of the legendary tri-color dragons, and in general just fun with an "When ~ deals combat damage" ability. Cross-set synergy with Thrummingbird, while a stretch, is cute.

I <3 double strike. This card has the potential to be the cause of many lucky, early game wins in conjunction with infect.

Leyline of Anticipation makes this into red's Giant Growth.

Very interesting to compare to double cleave.
Do you want an aggressively costed swing?
Or do you want a nifty combat trick?
