Do not underestimate this guy. He becomes a big problem fast in an ally deck. With each ally increasing his power along with his toughness, he becomes a meat grinder more than a wall. Nobody wants to send their creatures to their deaths at the hands of a defender that becomes increasingly more durable and able to kill off increasingly tougher dudes. But not attacking and instead hoping to build up a large enough army doesn't work against an ally deck. So for all the critics, look again, because he's that perfect little "catch-22" you've been looking for.

I forgot that he actually comes in as a 1/4. In an ally deck, that is pretty good. Spider Umbra makes him a solid blocker.

Also, the slower ally decks could use a defender or two to help lock down the early game, especially since allies have only a single one-drop.

Honestly this guy was meant to watch your back. I like the idea of the net going on him. In a soldier deck with him and Kazandu Blademaster your looking at a very solid blocker to buy you time. Honestly though if I were going to use 3 mana for a wall I'd rather it be Wall of Denial.

This is a bit weak; the good Allies (like Slivers) are decent even if you only get that one and nothing else. This guy is pretty useless without other Allies to support him.

(IIRC WotC does this deliberately for Draft, so someone who grabs a few of the "always good" Allies or whatever will then be able to easily get the "so-so" ones to support them, encouraging Draft to produce thematically distinct decks. But this guy isn't so good outside of that format.)
