There's no doubt that this card is good, but I think that it's best showing is going to be in Vintage/Legacy, where your opponent's counterspells are the very bane of your existence. It does certainly have value as a Counter-Counter, it's best use is in junction with hand-refilling spells like Timetwister, Wheel of fortune, Time reversal, Memory Jar, Diminishing Returns, and the like. High-yield draw spells like those are usually counterproductive because it allows your opponent the chance to draw Force of Will and stop you in your tracks. With Autumn's Veil, if you play it at the beginning of your turn, it will protect your spells for the entire turn, regardless of how many times your opponent draws a counterspell.

The only other black counter I remember besides Dash Hopes was Deathgrip.

Who really thinks that this card's ability to be countered is a bad thing? As far as I can tell, your opponent has limited resources and can't go countering every single spell.

Not so great in constructed, but pretty great in limited.
Can't tell you how many times it's saved me from Doom Blade.
