Desperate had Splice onto Arcane, which means you can get card advantage out of the deal.
This is a rather underpowered ramp, i'd take an end of opponent's turn Spawning breath first.
Seething Song, I think, is perfectly balanced and core set material.

turn one forest, birds of paradise.
Turn 2 rootbound crag, tap your two lands and cast a pyretic ritual and now you are free to cast anything for 4 mana...
i'm thinking along the lines of turn 2 sarkhan vol or demolish then next turn hardcast roiling terrain.

I have a very good feeling that this janky ritual is the reason that my best friend Ball Lightning didn't get reprinted (so as to prevent him from coming out on turn two). For that reason alone, I don't like this card.

I wish I could play 8 of these in standard,'
T1 birds of paradise of llwonar elves
T2 pyretic ritual into ruinblaster
T3 melt terrain
T4 roiling terrain
Can you say mana screwed for game.

I dunno, a card for one additional mana does not seem like a very good trade. If this were just one mana cheaper, it would be awesome.

This plus Koth...there's a combo there somewhere. Subpar on its own

The flavourtext makes me think of mankind's discovery of fossil fuels...
Also, try this:
Turn 1 Mountain, Gitaxian Probe, Rite of Flame, Pyretic Ritual, Seething Song, Past in Flames, , flashback Probe, flashback Rite of Flame, flashback Pyretic Ritual, flashback Seething Song, Grapeshot, flashback Grapeshot.

Draw a card. Cantrip solves all inadequacies.
