Very useful, lets you stockpile mana for later.

Weirdly enough, this might actually be better with a higher mana cost.

Compared to other 2cmc Mana-artifacts (Talismans and Signets for example), this has one obvious advantage; it pushes your available mana on turn 3 to 5 instead of 4. Even if you're only trying to ramp to a 4-drop (let's say Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas), with this you can cast it and still have an extra mana available for Spell Pierce or Turn Aside to protect your investment.

Another subtle advantage of this card is the fact that you can tap out to play it and still have mana available on your opponent's turn just in case you need to answer a threat.

@RunedServitor
It would be cool if it was like engineered explosives and the mana cost was X. That way, it would be good whenever you play it.

Still. This is a really good card. A friend of mine made a bringer deck that used this to get out one of them on turn 3. It was a silly deck.

Use this with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben to store one more mana.
