To me, the cost of its activated ability is as interesting as its effect. Outside of black, I don't think there's another standard-legal card that just lets you sacrifice creatures w/o an additional cost (such as tapping). Keep in mind that you can pay its cost several times before its effect resolves, given how the stack works. Practical applications for this include Viridian Emissary, Perilous Myr, or large-scale shenanigans with Nim Deathmantle :)

With a Mortician Beetle and of course some Reassembling Skeletons your opponents are gonna think twice about giving it back.

If you have Magma Phoenix on the field then you probably have access to at least 4 mana the next turn. Drop this, sac the Phoenix and cast Pyroclasm. Your opponent takes 3 and hopefully you can manufacture a board wipe or at least wipe anything your opponent would have been okay with sacing just to save themselves 2 damage. Beginning of their upkeep and this make 5 damage and a board wipe from about 4 mana.

I'm somewhat confused as to how this could have been reprinted. I thought all rares up to and including Urza's Block or so are on the restricted list by definition, independent of how good or bad or expensive they are...

Too bad it doesn't have shroud. When people just smelt it it ruins all the hot potato fun.

I like to draft from my Casual Cube-- one copy of every card I can get my hands on. This actually popped up in the same draft as Mindslaver!
My girlfriend drafted both. To make matters worse, I had Grafted Wargear.
