Uh, quick question. That thing's a vampire!?
...
I suppose I can kinda justify that. Not exactly sure what I'm seeing, to be honest, but when I see that I don't think "vampire."

I badly wanted this card to work. I pulled two and had a Standard Vamp deck at the time. Could not fit it in, just too unreliable for constructed. Now that Zen rotated, I made my deck into an EDH version. I have most of the higher cost rare vamps from across a few sets so it practically made itself. Again, could not bring myself to add this one. The trigger is 1) literally 7/99 chance for a minimal life swing at EDH life levels. And the creature itself isn't all that spectacular compared to my other vamps. Sure it's above the curve for upper tier black creatures in terms of power to mana cost, but still...
It was a good concept but I think they missed the mark on this one.

Great for my Vamp beatdown, even if it never sees play (7 mana in a deck with mana curve of 2 and heavy 1 costers is kinda steep) simply because it gets the beatdown started turn 0.

@Tynansdtm
You forgot your self discard effect: Cabal Therapy, Putrid Imp
You also forgot your Dark Ritual
Should be no problem to have him attacking turn 2, for a net gain of 2 life, (or a net gain of 9 life if you use Exhume instead of Reanimate.)

One of my favorite cards - its big, its nasty, it paints a big fat target on your forehead and every time you play it you hear "It's that guy."
5/5
Perhaps the most valuable lifelink creature yet. It easily does the job of three or four similar creatures.
Edit: This card works best in a deck that brings out mana quickly - set up right this can potentially get out on turn five or six latest.
Personally, I recommend Strands of Undeath for this guy. Trust me - its one of my best combos that I have. I wouldn't post advice that I haven't "battle-tested" and confirmed works.

Four of him and two Soul Spikes. First-turn win! Heck, that even gives you one chance to mulligan. You can get that every game, yeah?
