The cost of an Alpha Rock Hydra is as much- actually a little more right now, but I expect it to be equal again soon- as a Worldwake Jace, the Mind Sculptor.
This actually feels just to me. I don't know why, but I'd be happier spending $99 on this than on Jace.
Such is the Magic of actually fun, interesting cards, power/playability be damned to hell.
Edit: Beta version is about $25, and still black-bordered...since I'm cheap, I could go for Beta instead. :)

@Clockwork Swordfish: We can probably "thank" the people who said they'd play the game even if it was all numbers with no context of any sort for THAT sort of grumbling. (I can imagine Spike and Johnny overreaches well enough, but a Melvin overreach is a new one...) What do they expect to do, play every card on first sight like they were a blind-to-all-else bot? How do you get into a game like this if your inner Vorthos ISN'T attuned to high fantasy and/or magepunk?
Still...maybe we can pull a Planar Chaos-style shift on this and make a green version? Lichen Hydra or thereabouts? (Well, lichen DOES grow on rocks...)

Lardok headed up the mountain to do battle with the fearsome Singing Hydra, which was currently belting out some classic showtunes. He ignored Head #1 (alto) and Head #2 (baritone). In fact - he was here to take down one head only - the horrendously off-key Head #5. "I've been listening to you ruin this perfectly good hydra choir for weeks," Lardok growled as he swung his sword.
