If you have two Puresteel Paladins out then this and Accorder's Shield are actually hilariously powerful as you get two cards out of all of them (or more with more Paladins). Super amusing when your Paladin suddenly has the ability to survive direct combat with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn simply because you have a ton of shields taped to him. Fun stuff.

In any other situation this card does suck pretty darn hard though.

Sure, it's far worse than Accorder's Shield, which in the first place wasn't the best equipment ever, but it's not as terrible as you guys say. It's quite bad, but not unplayable.
As for it being an uncommon, I have condescended a long time ago that being common or uncommon doesn't define the card's playability. Stuff like this may get to be uncommon, but at least all that means is that I'll open it less frequently in boosters.

This is still bad even when compared to other cards that weren't good to begin with:
- Accorder's Shield at least provides vigilance, but despite being strictly better is still overcosted.
- Greatsword is terrible compared to Vulshok Battlegear, but at least has its use in limited.

First off, distributing the power of a card (in this case the Battlegear) among two cards and keeping the cost of one half (Greatsword) the exact same is not how it's done.
Wizards knows offense is the best defense, so at least they cut the mana for casting the defensive half (Kite Shield). But come on, it's still far too expensive to equip.

Now if it would have been the other way around (casting cost 3, equip cost 0), it would at least have been interesting, since you could use it to freely move it among your creatures during your main phase.

But come on, as it is the equip cost could have been 1, and nobody would have complained.

Wel... (see all)

Complete shit when compared to Accorder's Shield.

Really though, Accorder's Shield will still be legal when M13 comes along next year, so what's the point? I bought a booster box and have four of these, and only two Swiftfoot Boots. So this waste of cardboard is taking up the uncommon slot from something that's actually, you know, relevant.

Trash. Another example of making intentionally bad cards to "teach" players a lesson. Personally, I don't get it - they could have reprinted Accorder's Shield, which STILL doesn't see play, and taught the same lesson without the laughable direct-line inferiority of this new card. And to think that design time was spent on this and art was commissioned for it as well... why?
