Underrated fire-breathing bada$$. Would have seen play if Titans weren't reprinted methinks.

Can't they bring back the old Shivan Dragon? I mean, keep this too, but just for old-time's sake, bring back shivan dragon. Make it an uncommon like serra angel--who is still in print.

back in SOA days before conflux was out this was probably the best rare you could hope for. Repeatable effects are always great in limited and blaze is a great effect to boot. Excellent in limited and a cusual staple. GREAT STUFF!

At first glance I didn't think was a very effective card. Then I got it out. It kicks so much to the curb. Even if he's blocked, you can (by the time you have +6 mana) kill creatures or target your opponent or a planeswalker and do a lot of damage. Great in Green/Red, and I surprisingly run mine in a RUG deck. Tons of fun for a creature card. A 5/5 flier for 6 is already okay with me, then the ability just kicks it into overdrive.

This guy is sooo fun to ramp out. Bonus points for Swiftfoot Boots.

I'm confused, the card says WHEN it attacks you may pay......Is it a separate ability or is it a constant with the creature?

For me, this is one of those creatures that played out more effectively than it seemed to me to be at first view. It's one of those creatures that is going to draw attention (destruction spells) quickly.
Hm. I give it a 4 of 5 (5 reflecting perfection in a Magic card, such as Black Lotus) as a card, though it feels more devastating than that after it has successfully attacked and blasted with its flame.
I like the way this dragon's fire-breathing mechanic works, compared to Shivan Dragon's original rendition. It seems to better represent a dragon in action. Shivan is still quite classic and playable, but Flameblast Dragon is simply much better in multi-colored decks, at the very least. I also like what they did with Ancient Hellkite.
