I'm glad they brought it back, LIghtning Bolt was awsome but it was VERY unhealthy for the format, because ALL OTHER BURN SPELLS WERE INFERIOR.

Spoiled kids and their Lightning Bolts in Standard these days...tsk-tsk.

I find it very amusing that all of the earlier printings of this card are rated around a full star higher than this version. I'm not sure everyone realizes it, but Shock is a good card. The reason it's getting so much hate these days is because we've spent the past two years with the strictly better Lightning Bolt and Burst Lightning in our pockets, getting spoiled by their awesome power.

Yes, Shock is underpowered. Yes, Lightning Bolt is overpowered. Both are still very good. The happy medium is somewhere in between the two, but unfortunately fractional damage is confined to the absurd realm of Unhinged. I would love to see a new 1-mana instant burn spell core set staple that was in that happy medium between the two (like Burst Lightning), but I'm not sure how that card would work. Maybe R&D will surprise us all and get it figured out.

In the mean time, I'll gladly shuffle a playset of these and Incinerate into m... (see all)

@ The_Trendkill: Shock deals 2 damage to target creature or player. If a creature is chosen, tap that creature.
