It only affects the battlefield (not the hand, library, or graveyard). And it only cares about the name on resolution (so @relyt7 either 1 or 2 is the best).
One of the best black targeting removal spells. Too bad it isn't instant.

Maelstrom Pulse was $17 apiece, and I couldn't afford any. This is $0.25 apiece, I ordered 12 and am more than ready to have some fun with it.
DIE Wurmcoil Engine, Army of the Damned, Sun Titan + Phantasmal Image, and basically any random 'target creature' that might be getting a bit in your way. Twice.

Sever the Bloodline only exiles the target creature and all creatures on the battlefield that share a name with that creature. Thus if Sever the Bloodline is cast targeting Primeval Titan, and you have a primeval titan in your hand, in your library, and in your graveyard in addition to the one on the battlefield, only the titan on the battlefield will be exiled.

As the spell chooses the target when it is cast and checks the name as the spell resolves, either A or B is the best option, depending on the current board. Basically, transforming Bloodline Keeper won't save it, since the spell targets the specific object that is the card, but it will save the other two Bloodline Keepers, since Sever the Bloodline exiles all creatures that share a name with the target.

This is a nice card mechanically, but the picture is so wrong for it. It should show someone's entire bloodline being mystically cut, with tons of souls being thrown into the underworld. This one random woman just makes it look generic. So much potential there. And there could have been great flavor text too.

What happens if they sever the Bloodline my Reckless Waif, and in response I play Moonmist. Will the Merciless Predator be a valid target for the Sever the Bloodline, or did I save my Waifs?
