I love Steve. I've been keeping my fingers crossed for a functional reprint of this card for 8 years now.
Instead I got Civic Wayfinder, Ondu Giant, Viridian Emissary, Dawntreader Elk. I didn't like any of them. They just can't compare.
I want the good old Steve back.

I hardly see a reason to use rampant growth.

Strictly better than rampant growth. And I don't care if I'm bending the definition of "strictly better".

@Thewrathofshane: Judging by how many cards you complain on, you'd be happier if every creature was underpowered and vanilla and there was nothing interesting involved. What they were thinking was 'Hey why don't we make this card a little more exciting?' and they succeeded.

Unless split second or something like curse of death's hold, if he hits the field your GOING to get your land. Simply being able to block / sac makes this far better then rampant growth, not to mention the plethora of creature shenanigans.

What were they thinking?

You know what's sad? "Elder" is a real creature type, but apparently this guy isn't cool enough to be one...

which also gives rise to the question: why isn't teenage a creature type?

"I want the good old Steve back." -True_Mimin

You will probably never get a functional reprint of this card. "Good old Steve" was able to block, put damage on the stack, then sac to get land. Now that the rules have been long changed, I personally see no reason for them to print something like this. I, too, would like creatures like this, but creatures like this took a higher undertsanding to the stack. Something WOTC decided players shouldnt care as much about, or so it would seem. This, in my opinion, is why we are getting things like Borderland Ranger and its ilk. I would strongly doubt that we will ever get such a value creature ever again. It will most likely be tied to an ETB or Dies effect.

Actually, I take that back. Theros has that Burnished Hart, which is good, but I know that I personaly hate the fact that damage doesn't use the stack.

Maybe I am a bitter old man?

Maybe....
