I love this card, put it in the deck the moment I have it. Combo wit Gavony Township, he's a killer pump! Only thing though if he's exiled (via Oblivion Ring/Fiend Hunter) & return, he'll instant KO

"Hey check out this new Life cereal."
"I'm not gonna eat it, you eat it."
"No, lets get Mikaeus to eat it, he'll eat everything."
"He likes it! Hey Mikaeus!"

There's only one thing I would change, but I can understand why this didn't happen. Instead of remove A +1/+1 counter to power up all your creatures by +1/+1, I wish it would say remove X +1/+1 counters. All of your creatures get X+1/+1. But then again, he would be so O.P., he would teeter on the edge of broken.

In current standard you have more than enough to protect him. I'm currently trying him on a WW Human deck, and with the many double-strikers I churn out things get out of hand pretty quickly. I never need to pump him more than 2, except when I want him to be out of Shock range (RIP Lightning Bolt), and next turn he can give me an extra 4-5 power on the table. Specially good with proliferating shenenigans. Also, since no one mentioned, pair him with Ajani Goldmane for the vigilance everyone keeps asking for and extra counters on everyone :D

Thanks to Dark Ascension, only one question: if there is more than one Mikaeus, are they called Mikaei?
Run both Mikaei with Sorin, Lord of Innistrad for ridiculousness. Not amazing win-ness, just ridiculousness.
@ Quibbleflux: You must be psychic. Or work for wizards. :)

I guess Protection from Red would make him too good.
And the card would be getting cramped with words.
But. I mean. All those candles? He looks like he needs it :/

Five starts, here's why:
There are very few times when you will pull him and go "Ah darn"
I've played him early and watched my opponent squirm as my army just kept getting larger.
I've also played him with twenty manna once (My opponent had a very efficient "kill everything" combo deck with no win condition) He wound up taking Thirteen -1/-1 counters (Yes counters, it wasn't a tragic slip) and was still the biggest creature that had ever hit the field in that game.
