As good as this card is, I think Mirror Entity is much more efficient.

Cool card. He's a little slow to get going, and being a creature, he's very fragile. But if he survives, he can make your army quite fearsome. I'd probably 'board him out against sweeper decks. In Limited, of course, he's a turn-two bomb that needs an immediate answer. I also like the flavor of it, though I was sad to see him zombified in DKA. :(

Use a Power Conduit to move at least a counter back on to Mikaeus after he gives them out so you can put out counters each turn without Mikaeus running out. I run this in a Ghave undying/persist deck. Fun with counters.

If you don't fancy paying for that annoying 1 white in his cost, Edgewalker can help there. In fact, if you want to cast him for nothing, try Edgey and Blessed Orator for a 0/1 that'll just get bigger... until someone shoots him in the face at least.
Reason I chose them? They're both Human Clerics. TRIBAL POWAH

You'd think it was good on paper. Think again. Labourious, mana draining, counterspell baiting, turn-eating card. Avoid.

as Zoah mentioned, great card cuz you can pull him almost any time and he's viable. Great with freed from the real as a way to pump all your creatures quickly.

Play Ajani, Caller of the Pride and frustrate your opponents. The abilities could not be more complementary. "Shall I attack with a 10/10 flying and double striking Mikaeus the Lunarch, or shall I create 20 3/3 cats who gain a +1 counter every turn? Decisions, decisions..."
Plus you can have all of this up and running by turn 3 with Mikaeus defending Ajani from the earliest stuff.
Turn 1: Any land
Turn 2: Plains, Mikaeus, 1 counter.
Turn 3: Plains, Ajani, Caller of the Pride, who makes Mikaeus 2/2. If you block with Mikaeus tap him to be 3/3 to kill Grizzly Bears and the like.
Turn 4: Begin your reign of terror with your Lunarch who grows by 2/2 every turn until you hit Ajani's ultimate.

An extort deck's best friend. A fun thing I like to do is combo him with High Priest of Penance and various extorters, using him as a way to pump them up slowly and keep your extort base on the field. If you're running an Orzhov control deck, he's a must have in that regard.

You know, by the strictest reading, his wording calls for a target that doesn't exist. "Mikaeus" when he is Mikaeus, the Lunarch. I'm not sure how that interacts with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Hopefully well.
