i could see this guy in a B/G discard deck or in a U/B with some really small green mill control deck. but overall, he seems ok at best

Exiling graveyards isn't just for funsies. The reason people do it is because decks that interact with graveyards - if left unchecked - will absolutely demolish everyone. It would be like if there were no removal spells or counterspells. If the green player just ramps up hard and then just play big, fat monster after big, fat monster, you will just get crushed.
I really like the art on this card and it's actually quite powerful. While lord of extinction is better a lot of the time (in terms of P/T), it doesn't have flying or anything of the sort. Since this guy has flying, it won't be chumped as easily and you don't need any support cards for it to be threatening (unless their deck is based around having chump flying blockers).
This card is also an awesome plant zombie. It grows upon anything that dies, and becomes a relentless monster. I'm using it in my horde deck to add fliers to the horde as well as a creature that doesn't immediately mean game over... (see all)
