One of the most confusingly templated cards of all time.

I remember being at the Apocalypse prerelease... we were cracking open our packs, and the head judge at the event stepped up to the mic to remind us of the usual deckbuilding rules and tournament structures. Then, in a twist from the norm, he added that he wanted to mention a rules clarification on one card... Dead Ringers.

When I had first read the card, I thought "Okay, the wording is a bit awkward but I think I understand what this does". Listening to the head judge at this event try to clarify it, though, made a lot of us look around at one another in confusion... what was so confusing about this? Did we all miss something? Had we actually misunderstood it to begin with?

There are a lot of Magic cards that use the word "unless", but the vast majority of them have that word because they offer a player a "choice" of sorts. Counter a spell unless they pay 3... discard 2 cards unless you discard an ... (see all)

In Spanish, this card says what it does (in the same confusing way), and then adds reminder text: "(This means it destroys the creature if they have exactly the same colors or if they are both colorless)". When I saw that the English version did not have reminder text, I laughed.

This is one black creature-kill spell that should have had the 'can't destroy black creatures' bit taken out.

Okay what this does is basically: Destroy two creatures of the exact same colour/s. They can't be black.
