2/5. A 6/2 with first strike and haste for 7? Wouldn't be my first pick in draft, but it could be useful as a game finisher. Outside of limited its value drops dramatically.

And why does he die from his own Mugging?

Wait... of all people, lotsofpoopy has actually indirectly hinted one good thing about this card:

Haste

Why haste? First off, in limited, if it had passed the midgame, you could get this out before your opponent has anything to deal with it. Assuming that you went first, you can play this and attack before the opponent can bring out something to beat it. The first strike ability is also okay, but the point of this in limited is haste.

Even with that, though, this card still sucks in any other environment.

It's not a GREAT card...but it isn't terrible. Yes, he is grossly over expensive, (I'd put him at 5 mana), but his haste and especially his FIRST STRIKE make up for his utterly Godawful defense. If Wizards wanted to keep this card from being so mediocre they'd lower his mana cost to 5 or give him trample as well.

Hi I really like this card. Used it a few time against my friends. Works well with Blast of Genius. I play standard mostly and atm for my izzet deck there are too few cards that I own with mana cost higher than 6 from the red/blue pools. I'm not as seasoned as most of the ppl I see posting on here but I See the first strike and haste on this guy and It more than makes up for his toughness. You also must realize its only 1 R for this. 7 might be too high for this guy still but a def don't think he's unplayable. Also though as i said I used him too discard for blast of genius to win several times. So Unplayable? Maybe...
