Not as bad as you would think in sealed deck. There are a lot of times this comes in handy actually. Sometimes it's pretty much a 5/5 for 5 flyer. You would be surprised how often a situation like this comes up.

This card would be worth 100% of that 5 CMC if it was a legendary enchantment with "Grandeur - put a 5/5 black demon flier into the battlefield." At least that way you could guarantee a trigger at end of turn. Amirite?

i think it's solid in a sac deck. Obvious combo is demonic taskmaster. Also throw in stuff like bonesplinters, archwing dragon, reassembling skeleton, culling dais. The list goes on. The card must be built around, but it works well if you do. Be sure to have enough board clearing power and you're fine.

This turns Brion Stoutarm into a batting machine and Magus of the Abyss into a trampoline gymnast.
Various monoblack Commander decks practically write themselves. @DoragonShinzui IMO this is an insurance plan for "loner" control, you either have a 5/5 demon beating face on turn 5 plus a mediocre other creature, or your opponent wastes removal on your loner and you get 2 5/5 demons. Or you could always just fling or altar's reap off the token... and get another next turn while your loner does his stuff.
I don't know how many times this card has saved my ass. Saved me against a $150 Bloodline Keeper vampire deck while I was playing Heartless Summoning. When you're top-decking, this card brings out a big bad demon to protect you while you chump with your last guy, and then he brings a buddy along. 5/5 FLYING demon turn 5 is not a bad deal.
EDIT: It took me two months to realize it wasn't a weird long-headed demon in the art and it was actually the demon's hand X_x

Just saw this get played in the world championship cup, by Brazil's green-black unified standard deck. They never actually got a chance to use this little combo, but they had one available: Mutavault. Essentially, on any turns you have no creatures, you can activate Mutavault before the end step, and as long as it survives, wham, easy demon token. This also means that on a turn where you have 6 mana, you can cast Demonic Rising and then tap Mutavault to pay for itself, and so you get your first 5/5 token on that very turn, as well as your enchantment which should end up making more as the game progresses.
So, take it from me (erm, from team Brazil rather) - manlands. Run them with Demonic Rising.
@LifegainWithBite - how is it ridiculously bad if your opponent runs any sort of removal? If they get rid of the demon, it's card advantage. If they get rid of the Rising, it's a 1 for 1 only if you haven't gotten any demons out of it already, and it's not unlike other 5 drops in that it goe... (see all)
