It is also worth noting that it can be advantageously used after the declare attackers step, rather than the declare blockers step. That way, your newly created token can block right away, and you can potentially rid your opponent of an extra attacking creature.

This and Rootborn Defenses can give you a certain degree of control on the opponent's turn, which is always nice. If you're playing tokens, that is.

I would like to use this with Cackling Counterpart and Archaeomancer. Isochron Scepter is likely better (or good thrown in the mix), but unfortunately not in Standard.

Can be a useful way to deal with Geist of Saint Traft.
Cast this after the attack to prevent the damage and populate a blocker which will (hopefully) take out Traft himself.

The synergy almost makes me wish that Selesnya's 8/8 elemental tokens didn't have vigilance.
Why sure it's okay for you to attack me! It's not like I have any blockers is it?
I guess there's always the 5/5 wurms though.

So I played this in MTGO when my opponent blocked with creatures with deathtouch. It shielded all of my creatures too though it doesn't mention preventing combat damage to my creatures, so my creatures all lived and his were dealt fatal damage. This isn't correct is it?

I think the populate effect is sometimes more powerful than the other effect, depending on what kind of deck you're playing against.
