I actually have a land sac deck based on Terravore and Countryside Crusher that would get screwed pretty badly by this.
But Tormod's Crypt is still better...

"Sup Balthor. I heard you had a problem with that spell I gave you"
"Yeah Nicol Bolas. It... It doesn't really achieve anything. And now my boots are dirty"
"Oh really? That Terravore that I murdered a few days back didn't think so! Look, I know I screwed you over with that Ember Shot, but trust me on this one... just trust me."

If this card dealt 2 damage for each land removed, it'd be useful. Still not overwhelming, but useful.
Seriously, what were they thinking?

Someone cracked a Strip Mine, then tried to play a Crucible. He never saw it coming.

@KablamoBoom
If you're using this on yourself, Harvest Pyre cost 1 less and can take out an opponent's creature to offer you some protection when you use it. There is literally no reason to ever use mudhole.

I don't see why this is rated so low:
You have knight of the reliquary decks that use fetchlands and strip mine shenanigans
Crucible of world combos and also with zuran orb
Scavenging ooze if you try to shock it and they pump it with fetch lands. I just don't see how this is rated one star, I'll rate it 2.5 because it's not terrible
